Privacy Policy

Last Updated: August 31, 2026

1. Overview

At Liminality ("we", "us", or "our"), we respect your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how information is handled when you use the Curtain macOS desktop application and visit our website (getcurtain.app).

Our core philosophy is simple: Curtain is an offline-first utility that does not collect, monitor, or transmit your personal data, desktop files, or screen activity.

2. Curtain macOS Application

When running the Curtain application on your Mac:

  • Zero File Access or Tracking: Curtain uses native macOS preferences (CreateDesktop) to toggle the visibility of desktop icons. It never accesses, inspects, uploads, modifies, or deletes the contents of any files on your Mac.
  • No Screen Recordings or Keystroke Logging: Curtain has no access to your screen recordings, camera, microphone, or keystrokes. Global keyboard shortcuts are handled locally via standard macOS keyboard APIs.
  • Local Preference Storage: App settings (such as your preferred shortcut, trial timer, and purchase state) are saved locally on your device in standard macOS UserDefaults.

3. Purchases and License Validation

We process payments and license distribution through Lemon Squeezy (Lemon Squeezy, LLC), who acts as the Merchant of Record for Curtain.

  • Payment Processing: When you purchase Curtain, payment information (such as credit card details, billing address, and taxes) is collected and processed directly by Lemon Squeezy under their Privacy Policy. We do not store or process your financial payment details.
  • License Key Validation: To activate your lifetime license, Curtain communicates securely over HTTPS with the Lemon Squeezy API (api.lemonsqueezy.com) to verify that your license key is valid and record the device activation.

4. Software Updates

Curtain utilizes the open-source Sparkle framework to provide automated, secure software updates.

When checking for updates, Curtain makes an HTTPS request to our appcast feed (getcurtain.app/downloads/appcast.xml) to see if a newer version is available. Sparkle checks the cryptographic signature of releases locally on your Mac. No personal identification data is transmitted during update checks.

5. Website Analytics & Cookies

When you visit our website, we use Google Analytics to collect anonymous, aggregate information about visitor traffic, such as browser type, general geographic region, and download link clicks. This helps us understand how the website is used and improve the experience.

You can prevent Google Analytics from collecting your visit data by using browser privacy extensions or adjusting your cookie preferences.

6. Contact Inquiries

If you contact us via email ([email protected]) or our contact form, we will use your provided name, email address, and message solely to respond to your support request or question. We never sell or share your contact information with third parties.

7. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect product updates or legal requirements. Any revisions will be published on this page with an updated "Last Updated" date.
